Examples of adaptability in school

What is adaptability? Experiences of change , novelty , and uncertainty are common to all humans. These include major events such as beginning school, moving out of home, and starting a new job.


Demonstrate adaptability in your own life so children have a positive example to emulate. Teens: Life is going to throw curve balls your way. No one gets everything they want all the time.


A missed opportunity may open up another one that turns out to be even better. In our recent research published in the Journal of Educational Psychology, we looked at the adaptability of 9high school students from nine Australian secondary schools. Is adaptability a part of success?


Examples of adaptability in school

One of the terms used to describe an adaptable student is “buoyancy” – the ability to address everyday challenges (something that Martin et al suggest includes study deadlines, difficult schoolwork, and a poor result) – while “ adaptability” goes further, purposefully and specifically targeting uncertainty and novelty. Adaptability helps teachers to navigate change, novelty, and uncertainty at work. We sought to extend understanding of adaptability by considering it at the school -level in 1high schools.
