Gene interaction network

What is a genetic network? A gene interaction network is a set of genes ( nodes ) connected by edges representing functional relationships among these genes. Genetic interaction networks represent the functional interactions between pairs of genes in an organism and are useful for understanding the relation between genotype and phenotype.

The majority of genes do not code for particular phenotypes. Instea phenotypes often result from the interaction between several genes. A gene regulatory network is a collection of molecular regulators that interact with each other and with other substances in the cell to govern the gene expression levels of mRNA and proteins. These play a central role in morphogenesis, the creation of body structures, which in turn is central to evolutionary developmental biology.

The regulator can be DNA, RNA, protein and complexes of these. The interaction can be direct or indirect. However, there has yet to be empirical proof that this or any other mechanism underlies higher-order genetic interactions. A genetic interaction ( GI ) between two genes generally indicates that the phenotype of a double mutant differs from what is expected from each individual mutant. In the last decade, genome scale studies of quantitative GIs were completed using mainly synthetic genetic array technology and RNA interference in yeast and Caenorhabditis elegans.

Understanding the genetic networks and their role in chronic diseases (e.g., cancer) is one of the important. National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and. Suppose I get a partial correlation (PC) matrix (from RNA-seq) and want to use the PC matrix to build my gene - gene interaction (GGI) network. A genetic interaction (GI) between two genes generally indicates that the phenotype of a double mutant differs from what is expected from each individual mutant. Some of the most common types of biological networks are: 1. Metabolic networks 3. Protein-protein interaction networks 2. Neuronal network (NN)–gene regulatory network (GRN) interactions. Spatial dimensions (Bottom): Different cells (neurons), connected by the NN, may exhibit different GRN activities, even though the. Gene –environment interaction (or genotype–environment interaction or GxE or G×E) is when two different genotypes respond to environmental variation in different ways. A norm of reaction is a graph that shows the relationship between genes and environmental factors when phenotypic differences are continuous. They used a high-dimensional feature vector to represent a gene , where each feature denotes the expression magnitude in a spatial location of the embryo.

Definition ( Gene network ) Gene network can be represented as a network structure, which represents the interactions between genes within an organism. Given a hypothesized gene interaction network , this article develops and demonstrates the use of Bayesian network models as a tool for the analysis of a network using microarray data. The method allows for evaluating the strength of relationships within a hypothesized network and could also be used to test for additional linkages within the network.

These kinds of genetic interactions between the alleles of a single gene are referred to as allelic or intra- allelic interactions. Non-allelic or inter-allelic interactions also occur where the development of single character is due to two or more genes affecting the expression of each other in various ways. Their potential gene targets are predicted using two algorithms - miRanda and TarPmiR. Creation of miRNA-target interaction networks: miRNet provides a wide array of options to allow researchers to build miRNA-target interaction networks at different confidence levels. We offer user-friendly browsing, searching, and filtering of information on drug- gene interactions and the druggable genome, mined from over thirty trusted sources.
