Do you need malaria tablets for bali

Anti-malarial tablets are just really not necessary for Bali. I have been going to Bali for more than years and have never taken them. But, as the other posts say Dengue fever is the problem. Be aware of this, use insect repellent, mosquito coils and cover up at dusk if you are somewhere where there are lots of mosquitos.


What this means is that you really do not need to consider taking any anti malarial prophylactic medication at all. This situation is of course subject to change. In the main resorts area the risk is close to zero. If you plan to visit rural areas for a longer period , or do a lot of mountain trekking , etc then you could consider malaria prophylaxis. No vaccination is available for malaria ! Can you catch malaria in Bali?


What do you need to know about Bali? What are the health hazards in Bali? Is rabies vaccination necessary for Bali? It is always hard to recommend something when health is involved in the equation, but I would not say you need malaria tablets for visiting Bali or Lembongan. Low to no risk : antimalarial tablets are not usually advised.

I am sure that you would be able to get the malaria tablets in Bali , as one of the earlier posts says try the Bali International Medical Centre (BIMC) on the bypass road. The recommended malaria tablets for travellers going to risk areas in Thailand are Malarone and Doxycycline. Check with your doctor or nurse about suitable antimalarial tablets. As above, the risk in Bali is very low.


I would take a guess that your nurse is not a topical diseases expert and may not know exactly which anti malarials would be needed - even if they were. Whist there i mentioned that we were off to Bali in june. He highly recommended that we fill a script of Lariam and commence taking the a week before we go.


There has not been a reported case in years, and large parts of Lombok are officially malaria free. There is a low risk in Bali , Lombok and the islands of Java and Sumatra: awareness of risk and bite avoidance recommended. I have read that the risk of catching malaria on the Gili islands and Lombok is higher than in Bali.


There is no risk in the city of Jakarta: bite avoidance recommended. I can get a prescription from the doctor for malaria tablets but my partner and I both have to buy a pack of tablets which is costing £1each from boots pharmacy! It may be recommended that you take antimalarial tablets to prevent infection.
