Part-time employees work a regular and predictable amount of hours each week. For example: reducing your hours , having later or earlier start and finish times, working compressed hours , job sharing or working annualised hours. Rolling year is the month period preceding the date you make your flexible working.
Making a flexible working request Any employee making a request for flexible working should consider it carefully. Employees may request a change in the hours they work, a change in the times they work or request temporarily to work from home. It is not an automatic right as there may be circumstances when the University is unable to accommodate a desired work pattern. Working Time Regulations (referred to below), are required to work such additional hours as may be reasonable and necessary for the effective and efficient performance of their responsibilities. Its aim is to provide flexibility for staff with the opportunity to match working patterns to domestic arrangements and fluctuations in workloads and work-systems.
Before a decision is made about a flexible working request, the employee’s line manager may decide to trial the proposed arrangement to see how it works in practice. The length of the trial period will be at the manager’s discretion but will normally be between one and three months. Examples include, but not exhaustive are: job sharing, working from home, part time working , term time contracts, and annualised hours. There is an opportunity for employers to do more to provide flexibility for the benefit of all employees and organisations. The core hours are 10am to noon and 2pm to 3pm, within the bandwidth of 7:30am to 6:30pm.
Working hours are calculated on the basis of a settlement period. The Working Time Regulations (WTR) limit the hours an employee may work to an average of hours per week over a rolling week period. These may be chosen according to the wishes of the individual employee but must take into account the needs of the service and the circumstances of colleagues. The flexi-time system will be based on a four-weekly cycle.
It doesn’t matter how long you’ve worked here or how many hours you work. Maximum carryover of Hours - the maximum hours that an employee can carry over in credit or debit from one accounting period to the following accounting period. Annualised Hours (see appendix A3) Other types of flexible working that may be used (but not referred to in this policy ) include voluntary hours and the compressed working week. The law gives a range of minimum rights, but these are not always adequate to meet the situation.
For indoor staff, 8. Standard working hours are hours per day. Hours worked outside the bandwidth are not to be claimed as flexible hours. A meal break must be taken after hours continuous work. A minimum of minutes must be taken between 12-2pm.
This meal break is unpaid.
