Splitting a security deposit refund if tenants split up

Can division of deposit be split equally among all tenants? Should I get a deposit protection scheme? Can I take a joint tenancy deposit? Inspect your unit, release whatever portion of the security deposit is due back to the renters, remind your tenant(s) of their responsibilities, and collect a full new security deposit, just as you would with any other new tenancy. Just like your tenants who split up, you’re starting over.


By taking a position arbitrarily, and by separating the security deposit into two checks , you may be setting yourself up for liability for failing to return the security deposit to the proper.
