Kentucky law permits a person convicted of their first DUI to apply for a hardship license while their license is suspended. The hardship license grants you limited driving privileges for a limited amount of time.

With a hardship license you may be permitted to drive to work, school, alcohol and drug education classes, and to seek medical treatment. In Kentucky, if you are convicted of a DUI , you may request from the court a temporary , or hardship , license to use during the period that your license is suspended for DUI. Paperwork is presented to a District Court judge for approval and signing.


A hardship license can be applied for in the county where the DUI was received. Upon approval by the judge, hardship license paperwork is sent to a Driver’s License office in the county where the DUI was received. USLF updates all forms as required by statutes and law. Paperwork is submitted to the Kenton County Attorney’s Office for review and approval and then presented to a Judge for approval and signing.
